JMI Backstage support

Backstage is the members’ app for Jones Musical Instruments, the bass company of Darryl Jones. Members post to the community wall, ask Darryl questions, watch lessons, and register the instrument they own by its serial number.

It helps to include your username in the app, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth more than a description.

Signing in

You sign in with the username and password you chose when you created the account, not with an email address. The app keeps you signed in until you sign out.

If you have forgotten your password, write to the address above from the email address on your account, or send your username. Staff will issue a temporary password and the app will ask you to set a new one the first time you use it. There is no automatic reset link, because an email address is optional on a Backstage account.

If sign-in says there have been too many attempts, wait a few minutes and try again. The app slows down repeated failed attempts on purpose, to protect accounts from guessing.

Claiming your bass

Open Gear, enter the serial number stamped on the instrument, and add a photo if you have one. A member of JMI staff checks it against the company’s serial register and approves or declines it. Once it is approved, your posts carry the model and number of the instrument, and members-only lessons open up.

If a serial is not recognised, send it to the address above with a photo of the instrument and the number, and staff will look it up by hand. Instruments sold secondhand often need this, because the register may still hold the first owner.

Posting, photos and lessons

  • Photos. A post or a claim takes one photo, from your camera or your library. The camera asks for permission the first time. If you turned it down and want it back, open Settings, find JMI Backstage, and switch Camera on.
  • Editing and deleting. You can delete any post or comment you wrote, from the post itself.
  • Lessons. Lessons open in a browser view inside the app. Some are marked members only and unlock once an instrument is registered to your account.
  • Nothing loading. Check the phone is online, then close the app fully and reopen it. If it keeps happening, write to us with your iOS version and the app version.

Reporting a post or a member

The wall is for members of a small community, and JMI expects it to read that way. Report a post or a comment from the item itself in the app, and block a member from their profile: a block stops the two of you seeing each other on the wall. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.

You can also send the username and a screenshot to info@jonesmusicalinstruments.com. JMI removes anything that breaks the terms of use and can suspend or close the account behind it.

Your account and your data

  • Change your password. From your profile inside the app.
  • Change your display name, bio, photo or email address. From your profile inside the app.
  • Correct an ownership record. Write to us.
  • Get a copy of everything the app holds about you. Write to us.
  • Delete your account. In the app, open Profile and choose Delete account. It asks you to confirm, then closes the account at once: your posts, comments, messages, photos and claims stop being visible to anyone else. Thirty days later all of it is deleted for good.
  • Change your mind. Sign in with the same username and password inside those 30 days and the account comes back as it was. After that it is gone and cannot be recovered. If you cannot get into the app, write to us from the email address on the account and staff can restore it or delete it for you.

What the app collects and where it is kept is set out in full on the privacy policy. The rules for the community wall are in the terms of use.

Custom builds and orders

The build tool in the app puts a specification in front of the workshop and gives you a reference number. Questions about a build in progress, a deposit or a delivery date go to the same address, with that reference number in the message.

What the app needs

An iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later. Backstage is not built for iPad, and there is no Android version yet. The instruments themselves, the custom shop and the dealer list are at jonesmusicalinstruments.com.
